Elements: Cosmology
Artworks that emerge in cosmological form through painting, dreaming, ritual, and writing
Cosmology Map 1, 2025. Pencil and watercolour on paper
My artwork unfolds as an evolving cosmology: a field of painting and symbolic enquiry shaped through co-creation with veiled beings, herbs, and liminal spaces. It traces psychic processes of transformation across conscious, unconscious, somatic, and otherworld registers. Herbs such as mugwort, valerian, and yarrow serve as ritual companions, opening passageways between inner and imaginal realms.
The cosmology gathers nascent fragments of paintings, rituals, dream, drawings, writings, parsemage, planchette work, dream incubation, and somatic listening that trace the movements of psyche’s unfolding. These fragments emerge half-formed and unannounced and are mostly unexpected. They seem to trace psyche’s shape; its form, colour, terrain, feeling and it’s many logics and non-logics, providing multiple perspectives on a particular aspect of the soul’s unfolding.
Fragments sometimes lie dormant within the archive for years, and they ripen into meaning only when some aspect of my psyche ‘recognises’ them and provides some care and conditions of hospitality to support their transformation. Here, sometimes, they become more-than-embryonic and, as elements, gather with other fragments, elements and painting into Constellations; artworks comprising many elements .Sometimes the elements don’t exist in the same place and time as each
At other times they slip into Painting which unfolds as a field of relation and becoming, rather than a fixed medium or form.
At other times fragments become more-than-embryonic and gather into Constellations; provisional groupings of paintings, writings, fragments, rituals and other elements. Sometimes the elements don’t exist in the same place and time as each other. Some are tangible and others are telepathic, ephemeral, non-graspable.
Informed by feminist reworkings of alchemy and distributed epistemologies and resisting hierarchical and centralised form the symbolic structure of the cosmology invites continual reconfiguration as new fragments, painting and constellations emerge and find their place.
Cosmology: Elements
My work and cosmology unfold in a fragile and intuitive way; not only from the seemingly chaotic chasms of the unconscious, but also from its archaic differentiated relations. My interest in the organisational structure of distributed networks suggests a way to imagine artworks as comprising many elements and fragments. As a starting point, I have begun to conceptualise and name some of the elements; each shaping the psychic, material, and imaginal terrain of the work. Whilst my provisional articulations may describe bounded entities, my intuitive understanding points to the porousness of the cosmology where each element is but a vantage point from which to view the processes of unfolding and becoming.
Some elements currently hold only the outline - the pulse of form still emerging. Others already host fragments of the work. Over time, these elements will gather more: gestures, texts, images, and thresholds of meaning. Aspects of some elements, such as Dreams, Tending and Rituals emerge without tangible form. Sometimes aspects may be documented and included in the archive; sometimes not.
These categories are not endpoints, but threads. They invite return, reconfiguration, and relation.

Nascent forms—images, sensations, or texts—that surface before resolution
Figuring
Reflective writing, drawing, or conceptual enquiry that shapes thought.
Alchemy
A symbolic process of mutual transformation between soul, matter, and spirit.
Turnings
Seasonal thresholds that mark inner and outer transformation.
Tending
Somatic and herbal practices that open passageways of care and attention.
Rituals
Symbolic acts that invite transformation through gesture and relation.
Fields of Thought
Theoretical threads that underpin the cosmology and practice.
